Club Stereo: From Disco to Bottle Service
Christina Brown
Longtime nightclub owner, Peter D’Agostino, continues to stay in style as he evolves from disco to bottle service. In 1966, D’Agostino gave birth to his club at 5616 W. Diversey, in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood. Since then, almost 40 years have passed and the club, previously named Jedynka, has morphed from a disco scene with themed nightly events, to a dance club named Stereo, with a predominantly Polish crowd.
The rebirth of the club has brought the infamous club scene of downtown Chicago to the Belmont-Cragin area. You can still get the feel of being at a swanky River North club without actually having to go through the hassle of traveling to the heart of the city.
The outer appearance of Stereo is not the most eye-catching, but once partygoers make their way inside, they quickly realize that the facade is misleading. Eyes are lit up from the 15,000 color-changing LED lights imbedded in the three white marble bars that surround the dance floor in the main room. The talented bartenders at one of three bars are all to happy to whip up one of their vodka infused concoctions to take with you on the dance floor. For those that don’t want to be the center of attention, kick back and chill-out in the VIP-like lounge offering bottle service from a separate bar.
Hanging over the dance floor are two oversized disco balls that not only represent Jedynka, but also draw the eye up to the club’s coolest attribute. The DJ booth holds the perfect position, perched atop a rounded staircase, which gives the DJ his own personal space to lay down the hottest beats for the sweat drenched crowd. Stereo’s go-go dancers give partygoers a sense of being in Vegas without having to travel across country. With the laser lights that stick to the clubs disco roots, the Euro and American tunes the DJ pumps out keeps the dance floor packed with plenty of different beats.
With all that this nighttime chic club has to offer, attendees are sure to be satisfied and want to keep coming back for more. There will always be something happening at Stereo Wednesday through Sunday, from 8 pm to 2 am, and 8 pm to 3 am on Saturdays. For more information, visit Stereochicago.com.
