Hoyt's
71 E. Wacker, 312.346.9870
As the Chicago River curves along E. Wacker Drive, a gleaming modern tavern throws its doors open to offer up new takes on Midwestern comfort food. Hoyt's, sharing a name with one of the first men to rebuild after the Great Fire of 1871, has managed to redefine American tavern fare, into upscale dishes made from the freshest local produce and meat. Chef Gabriel Kolofon turns out breakfast favorites such as Atlantic Smoked Salmon ($13), Traditional Eggs Benedict ($14) and a heavenly Brioche Coconut Cinnamon French Toast ($13). For lunch, snacks include Homemade Pretzels ($7) and the Tavern Chips and 3 Dips ($7). Come sundown, guests can indulge in Homemade Ravioli ($14) with mascarpone, spinach, pecans and fresh herbs, or the Nantucket Sea Scallops ($24) in a butternut squash puree and cauliflower foam and arugula salad. Save room for dessert at Hoyt's, though, the Vosage Chocolate Jar ($7) is irresistible.
