In September, Chicago’s River North neighborhood welcomed a taste of Mexico with the new modern Mexican cuisine: Cantina Laredo. This local eatery serves up authentic Mexican dishes and drinks for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.

Cantina Laredo is dedicated to providing the signature taste of modern Mexican cooking by welcoming guest with complimentary salsas accompanied by house-made chips and by offering their signature service of made-to-order guacamole, which is prepared tableside for guest to receive the freshest guacamole possible. Cantina Laredo offers additional appetizers like the chile con questo and they put a twist on the classic nachos with their beef fajita nachos. For guests who rather skip the appetizers and go green, the restaurant features entrée salads that include the grilled shrimp salad with goat cheese, the fajita chicken salad topped with cilantro lime dressing and the chicken and mango salad topped with a queso fresco with honey vinaigrette.

Once guests are settled in at Cantina Laredo and done with their appetizers, it’s time for the main course. Some of the specialty dishes consist of braised pork shank, Certified Angus Beef tenderloin filet, fish of the day and shrimp-stuffed chicken breast. However, the eatery doesn’t forget to add famous Mexican dishes such as hand-rolled enchiladas and tacos, along with tortas that are offered on the lunch and brunch menu. A majority of the dishes are finished off with house-made signature sauces that include chipotle-wine with portabella mushrooms or sautéed artichoke hearts with roasted red bell peppers.

For guest to end their dinning experience off on the right foot they can’t forget to check out the dessert menu where the eatery serves up the classic flan and mango tres leches cake. For guests who enjoy a more personal experience, they can get the Mexican brownie or the Mexican apple pie (sizzling in brandy butter), which both are prepared tableside just like the famous house-made guacamole.

Besides featuring great food, Cantina Laredo also offers a small plates lounge menu on their second level. The lounge menu still offers a taste of Mexico, just in smaller portions. The menu consists of mini, crispy ahi tuna tacos, crab cakes with poblano buerre blank and flatbreads.
