Kid-friendly restaurants are hard to come by in the Chicago area, unless you make a visit to Humboldt Park where Joe Sabath opened his own restaurant: West on North. Sabath opened the traditional American restaurant after struggling to find a place in his neighborhood to bring his children for dinner.

Some kid-friendly dishes on the menu include deep-fried cream cheese balls, made with Animal Crackers, Goldfish and saltines, and bacon-wrapped pretzel sticks with sweet chili dipping sauce. However, the neighborhood eatery also is welcoming to adults and offers more grown-up in addition to its youthful ones. Homemade burgers stuffed with bacon and blue cheese, tilapia, steaks and a coconut-battered butterfly shrimp po’ boy sandwich are some of the many choices for a more mature guest with a bigger appetite.

Restaurant guests of all ages want to be sure to save room for dessert because Sabath put some special dishes on the dessert menu such as, deep-fried Twinkies and a cheesecake chimichanga, consisting of a tortilla wrapped around cheesecake, fudge, nuts and caramel.

With such unique dishes to offer, West on North serves up American cuisine that is appealing to all ages for a reasonable price. Also be sure to check out West on North on Tuesday nights for half-off burger night.
