"Music Counts" 2011 Gala
Four Seasons Hotel
120 E. Delaware Place
The Merit School of Music host its Music Counts 2011 Gala Benefit, a cocktail-attire affair to benefit students enrolling in the 2011-12 program year, a majority of whom will qualify for need-based financial aid and instrument loans. Merit's Annual Gala is its largest fundraiser, and its generous donors helped provide the nearly $3 million in financial support given last year.
Merit students and alumni will mingle among the nearly 500 Gala guests to share their individual success stories and demonstrate how music counts in their lives. The evening will feature performances by Merit ensembles, including a jazz combo headlined by Merit alumnus and former Count Basie Orchestra trumpeter Shawn Edmonds. Merit School of Music, www.meritmusic.org, is a non-profit community music school providing high-quality classical and jazz music education to 6,000 Chicago-area students, from newborns to age 18. Founded in 1979, Merit seeks to help young people achieve their full potential, to remove economic barriers to participation, and to stimulate personal and educational growth through music. Its esteemed faculty teaches a continuum of instrumental programs leading to the Alice S. Pfaelzer Tuition-free Conservatory for the most advanced and motivated young musicians.
