The holiday season is the best reason to "go all out", "mix things up", and without a doubt look F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S. Whether your plans take you out of town, to a family affair or the best party of the year, such as Chicago-Scene's New Year's Eve party at the Drake Hotel, you will need to get serious about your holiday style. Here we offer incredible examples to spice up your spirited affair.
For Her:
Casual-Cocktail Affair:
If you are gearing up for an intimate gathering with friends and loved ones, and the invitation doesn't specify "black tie" or formal attire, than you have plenty of room to create a style that is right for you. Denim is not just for daytime as most of us already know, so think of wearing a decadent shawl, or an embellished kimono top with turquoise beading and full wide sleeves such as the one pictured with a pair of your favorite fitted sexy jeans.
Embroidered & Beaded Chiffon Kimono, Adrienne Landau $1,100 at Neiman Marcus, 747 N. Michigan Avenue. Or visit www.neimanmarcus.com
Work-related Holiday Attire:
The classic black dress is the answer if you are in doubt and pressed for time. This black halter dress is an easy choice for your office party. The black matte jersey and mock turtleneck halter top has sexy cut-in shoulders for more of a flirty effect. David Meister, Cocktail Dress, $210, Neiman Marcus.
A beautiful take on a basic suit is to vamp it up with the look of the season, "faux fur" and velvet - a gorgeous combination. The look is rich and luxurious; you can pull it all together with a satin belt and purse. Black velvet top, $194, and black stretch velveteen trousers, $198, BCBG, 103 E. Oak Street or visit www.bcbg.com
Club/Restaurant Holiday Affair:
If you're heading out on the town and will hit a hot restaurant or club to celebrate an event, this Anna Sui look in purple velvet floral with burnt-out pattern is decadent as it is sexy and festive. Anna Sui top, $445 and skirt $330, at Neiman Marcus.
The idea here is to be a diva! You are a woman who hasn't got a care in the world, except that it's party time, so bring out the animal in you and really wear it on your sleeve! Chiffon top $106 and trousers $146, satin bag $60, BCBG. (Fox fur scarf $320 at S. Garber Furs 900 N. Michigan Ave).
Black-Tie:
The event of the year deserves an incredible entrance. This Channel-inspired dress is no exception; you will be one in a million in this tissue-soft chiffon pale pink gown (think Nicole Kidman at last year's Oscars.) ABS by Allen Schwarz, $320, Nordstrom, 520 N. Michigan, or www.nordstrom.com
If you want a splash of color this season, try this "Marilyn Monroe" inspired red dress with a silk wrap. The statement you will make in this dress will be feminine yet powerful. Silk Chiffon dress $288, ruby silk wrap $64, at BCBG.
For Him:
Men always look exceptional in a suit, and on festive occasions there really isn't anything better. This monochromatic ensemble is modern, stylish and perfect for a party and a black tie event, and nowadays this suit can easily replace a traditional tuxedo. Hugo Boss Three-piece Tuxedo $925, at Saks for Men or visit www.saksfifthavenue.com.

Q: What is your view on open toe shoes for the holiday season and can they be worn with nude hose?
A: Unless the weather allows for you to wear open toe shoes, you really should box them in until May. Nude hose and sandals or open toe shoes simply do not mix or look polished. Stick to a closed pump or stiletto. This season there is plenty of gorgeous footwear to choose from, check out G'bani on State Street or Niche on Damen.
Q: What is the best coat length for an evening affair?
A: If you're wearing a suit the coat should be as long as possible. If you're wearing a long dress, you can either wear a short jacket above the waist or full-length coat. If you're wearing a dress that is knee length, try for a three-quarter length coat.
