Ring in the New Year your way
Chicago Sun-Times

December 9, 2005
BY LUCIO GUERRERO Staff Reporter

Here's some good news -- New Year's Eve falls on a Saturday night this year. Of course, that could be bad news for some people. Because that means you better have great plans. You can't use the "I have to go to work the day after tomorrow" excuse this year. Watching the Times Square apple drop from your couch just isn't going to cut it this time. We want you to bring 2006 in with style -- so we are here to help. These are some of events that will help you ring in the New Year. There's something for everyone's budget and taste. From families to singles, we are sure you can find something that fits your style.

Chicago Scene event at the Drake (140 E. Walton)
When you think of the Drake Hotel, a couple of things probably come to mind -- old money, the Cape Cod Room and afternoon tea. But on New Year's Eve, the Drake is known for one thing -- having perhaps the biggest party for singles in the city. With the help of Chicago-Scene.com, the stately Drake becomes the place to be for thousands of young professionals who are looking to ring in the new year with some like-minded individuals. Those wood-paneled walls don't rattle this hard the rest of the year. This is the fifth year Chicago-Scene.com has sponsored the gala and it's quickly becoming the hottest ticket of NYE. The event, which is black-tie optional, usually sells out and, let's face it, watching the festivities from the lobby isn't much fun. The admission price includes a three-ring circus of entertainment with two DJs and the Paramours, a live band. The party also includes premium open bar from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., 45 bars and bartenders, hors d'ouevres until midnight, a champagne toast at midnight, a balloon drop, and dessert and coffee service after midnight. You can almost be guaranteed to welcome the new year with style and class. And a kiss from someone.
Price: $175.
