It's not often fashion photographer David Anthony steps out from behind his camera. He was toasted by about 100 friends, models and media moguls at a party last week night at Luxbar, 18 E. Bellevue.
"I really hate these things," says the camera-shy shooter, who lives in Chicago but flies around the world for magazines such as Harper's Bazaar and Italian Vogue. Guests included Ocean Drive magazine co-publisher Courtland Lantaff, who was in town to scout talent for the Chicago version of the Miami-based magazine he's launching this fall, Michigan Ave. Other partygoers included the owners of the new Gamma Player boutique, Jeff and Yoko Mills, and Chicago Scene publisher Ted Widen.
Guests eyeing his photo retrospective in the second-floor party room nibbled on mini-burgers while browsing photos of stars like Britney Spears and Bjork. His fashion photography is also used on the set of "Ugly Betty" as the cover art for the show's fictional Mode magazine.
"He's the best photographer in this part of the country," says Ford model Rebecca Gable, looking like she's never taken a bad picture. "He's shot half of my book and he just nails it every time."
"A shoot with David equals money in the bank for these girls," explains Elite modeling agency director Stephen Hall. "He has the ability to capture a perfect moment."
